welcome to

creative edge Fine Arts preschool

Creative Edge School of Arts is a family-run business that has been serving Abbotsford since 1991! Our focus is on building self-esteem through fine and performing arts, offering high-quality programming and most importantly, providing a safe, caring environment for our students.

Our facility offers extensive office hours, should you ever have any questions, features one-way mirrors in all classrooms so you can view your child’s classes any time and provides additional opportunities for learning in our fine and performing arts add-on classes!

Class curriculum focuses on building social skills, preparing for kindergarten and exploring fine and performing arts including visual arts, singing, dance, movement, drama games and rhythm. Other activities include counting in English and French, printing, colors, shapes, sign language phonics and more. Creative Edge preschool students will perform on stage in December and June.

A Super Fun Preschool With A Fine Arts Edge

Typical Class Routine:

Parents drop-off children at the front entrance where they answer a symptom check and confirm who is picking up the child after class. Children hang up backpacks and coats in the hallway and put on their inside shoes. The two teachers line children up in their cohorts and when everyone is ready take them into their first activity of the day. Each day of class will include:

  • 20 – 35 MINUTES OF FREE PLAY – Children learn to play with each other sharing toys, playing games or puzzles and working together to build things.  Teachers encourage interaction and getting along with one another.  There will be a station which will change monthly with themes such as Grocery Store, Flower Shop, Workshop, Bear Den, etc.  We will also have teacher assisted tables where students will perform safely adapted fine motor tasks such as hammering, threading or sorting and many other activities. Playdough, sensory tables or science tables are also featured!

  • 10 – 15 MINUTES OF A GROUP GAME -  i.e. memory game, bean bag games (for balancing and coordination), drama games, finding colors and shape games, partner games, circle games.

  • CIRCLE TIME - our circle time is centered around monthly themes ( i.e. hibernation, dinosaurs, insects, circus, health and safety, community workers, plants, friendship, nursery rhymes, etc.)  We discuss what day of the week it is, our number and letter of the week, shape of the week, and counting from one to ten in English and in French.  We also use flashcards to reinforce learning of colors, shapes, numbers etc. In addition, we learn our letters in sign language which helps the children to better understand the alphabet. We sing songs (often related to our monthly theme) and we read stories and perform finger plays.

  • CRAFT TIME (in our art room) – Typically there will be a main art project as well as worksheets and additional stations which could include painting, junk art, cutting, stamping, tracing, stencils and more. At the end of craft time each child has their own basket to keep their crafts in.  They learn their basket by the picture on it and some children can also recognize their name and basket number as well.  In Springtime the art room is home to a special long-term life-cycle project such as hatching chicks or butterflies!

  • GYM OR OUTDOOR TIMEWe have both indoor and outdoor play spaces. Children will play outdoors whenever weather permits. Our fenced outdoor area is partially covered by awnings and a large tree canopy. Our outdoor area is ideal for running, balancing, jumping and make-believe or co-operative play. Our large indoor playroom offers other gross motor skill-building activities including some of the following: bouncy castle, mini trampoline, slide, roller coaster, balance beams, gym mats, basketball hoop, teeter totter and more. The items will rotate weekly.

  • MUSIC  -  Music time uses rhythm instruments and song to learn basic aspects of music theory and foster a love of music.

  • DANCING GAMES – Students will learn dance routines for their December and June performances. They will also have opportunities to learn other fun dance routines such as: Bird Dance, Hokey Pokey, Mulberry Bush, Stretch it out, Freeze Dance, Peppermint Twist, Limbo, Marching song and the Colour Song as well have opportunities for creative movement!

  • DISMISSAL – Children will gather their crafts into their backpacks, change into their outdoor shoes and coat and line up in the entrance way where teachers will supervise dismissal to the guardian indicated for pick-up that day.
